Fort Mervine – Invitation from Lincoln Camp 10

Kevin Coyne, Secretary of Lincoln Camp 10 has extended the following invitation to Brothers of Camp 22:

Greetings brothers of Camp 22, and any other allied or associated SUVCW members,

Camp Lincoln 10 cordially invites you to our 11th Annual Fort Mervine event, part of Monterey History Festival, located on the grounds of the former Civil War era Fort Mervine in the Lower Presidio of Monterey.

The event will include an educational day on Friday, October 13th, followed by two days of the public event culminating on Sunday late
afternoon on October 15th.

SUVCW participants traditionally go en-masse to eat in a local Monterey restaurant.

This is an opportunity to camp in Monterey for free. While some bring their Civil War era tents, others bring recreational vehicles and camp in the parking lot.

For people wishing to participate (educate) on educational day, set-up is allowed as early as Thursday October 12th.

We are in need of people that can do “show and tell” or simply talk about a civil war or GAR related topic for about 10 minutes, more or less, to various small groups of students as they rotate around the various teaching stations. The museum itself will be open part of this day. We currently have 150 students confirmed for the event, with a few more invitations pending.

In addition, should anyone know of anyone OUTSIDE of the SUVCW allied orders that has something to show or contribute, we welcome sharing this information with them.

All further questions can be answered by emailing event coordinator Garrett Hasslinger at 1stMaine@gmail.com.

More information can be found on the Fort Mervine Facebook page.

We hope to see any of you there, whether for educational day, the entire event, or whatever you can show up for.

In Fraternity, Charity & Loyalty,

Kevin Coyne, PCC
Secretary
